Overview of IT Profession


IT Profession can be broadly categorized into application and infrastructure domains. Application developers can be further categorised into functional, non funtional or a combination of both. People who take care of functional side of application design mostly deal with business users. Infrastructure again spreads acorss compute, storage, network, databases etc.

As per experience people can play role of consultants, architects, administrators, developers, analysts, specialist etc. Some people can go into managemet line to handle operations, service delivery, sales, devops practices, account/client etc. Some people do support jobs as well. In fact, the areas in IT sector are many and, so are the different job roles, associated challenges and remunerations.

It is important to understand the overall sector from a logical view to take a decision in choosing a career sub area or stream in the right direction matching one's potential and dreams. Generally, this decision should be taken as early as possible in the career building phase, so that there is enough time to pickup the right concepts and practice in right IT Labs as one progresses from 1st semester to the last semester.

Our focus is to conduct career conselling workshops with the help of all kinds of practicing professionals at a very broad level to help the student make a pragmatic decision. The student in most cases is unaware of the vast job areas and where he/she stands now and the true requirements of the aspired job.
